Dr. Terry Myers Zawacki
Dr. Terry Myers Zawacki directs the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) Program and co-chairs the cross-university Writing Assessment Group charged with overseeing a state-mandated assessment of students’ writing competence across disciplines. As an associate professor in English, she regularly teaches courses in writing ethnography, advanced writing for the social sciences, first year composition, and graduate courses in composition theory and the teaching of composition. She also developed and teaches the experiential course Peer Tutoring in Writing in the Disciplines. Her publications include Engaged Writers and Dynamic Disciplines: Research on the Academic Writing Life, co-authored with Chris Thaiss, along with articles on writing centers and writing fellows, writing in the disciplines (WID), alternative discourses, writing in learning communities, feminism and composition, and writing assessment. In addition to other editorial and consulting roles, Dr. Zawacki is on the Consultants Board of the International WAC Network.
Anna Sophia Habib
Anna Sophia Habib is the Director of the University Writing Center and term faculty in the English Department at George Mason University. Anna was born in Beirut, Lebanon at the peak of the civil war and fled to the island of Cyprus with her family, where she grew up speaking English, Arabic, French and Greek. She graduated from George Mason University with her Master’s of Fine Arts in Nonfiction writing. Anna’s collaborative academic research was published by GMU’s Diversity Research Group in a monograph titled Valuing Written Accents: Non-native Students Talk about Identity, Academic Writing and Meeting Teachers� Expectations and is published in Reinventing Identities in Second Language Writing published by the National Council for Teachers of English. She is currently working on a book-in-progress, A Block from Bliss Street, about her experiences as a child of the Lebanese civil war.
Eiman is an ESL Specialist at the University Writing Center at George Mason University. Eiman is a native Washingtonian and was raised bilingually in Farsi (Persian) and English and learned French as a third language. Her undergraduate degree is in International Studies and her graduate degree is in Linguistics. In addition to her work at GMU, Eiman teaches English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at The George Washington University.
Alex Scott Antram
Alex Antram is a student of cultural anthropology and conflict resolution, with a B.A. in Anthropology. Though raised monolingually, through her endeavors in anthropology, Alex has a working knowledge of the Spanish and Tongan languages. She has eagerly applied her training in the social sciences to this research.
Sarah E. Baker
Sarah E. Baker is Assistant Director of Writing Across the Curriculum, Assessment Specialist in Written Communication, and Instructor in Composition at George Mason University. Sarah calls herself trilingual in French, English, and American; she is in American born in France and raised in England where she was educated exclusively in the French Lycee system, from which she received a Baccalaureat degree. She earned her BA in Comparative Literature at Wesleyan University and an MA in the Teaching of Writing and Literature at George Mason University. Among her research interests are exploring the intersections of writing and technology.
Alo Das is an ESL Specialist at the George Mason University Writing Center. Originally from India, she speaks English, Bengali and Hindi with equal ease. She grew up mostly in India, speaking all three languages, and has been to graduate schools in both the US and India, and now teaches her children Hindi and Bengali as well as English. Alo received her master’s degree in Linguistics and has taught English at the English Language Institute and Linguistics at Marymount University.
